Yesterday after we came home from our quick trip to Demoines I started working on reorganizing my bathroom. Truth be told — it was a pit.
I got into one of those re-organizational moods where you dig through the drawers and sift through the bins and just throw out everything that hasn’t been touch in over a year. Come on – if it hasn’t been touched and you aren’t using it – TOSS IT.
I have girls. I used to be a girl. Girls come with all sorts of hair things in all colors, shapes and sizes. Do you know what a PITA it is to have to dig through the bin of hair things just to try and find two matching pieces? So — I came up with a brand new system for storing everything. Now when we want to find something to put into our hair style for the day — not only can we find it — but we don’t have to dig through a pile of hair things to get what we need.
Now it’s all about maximizing our time and determining what look we are going for. :]
You know those plain shower curtain hooks like these?

You can separate everything into a bundle and hook it! What’s nice about using these shower curtain hooks is that you don’t have to take everything off to get to what you want. You can move them around until you find what you need and then unhook only what you need. Pretty cool, eh?
I had these lying around because a couple of months ago I changed out my shower curtain in the master bath. So how thrilled do you think I was when I discovered a way to re-purpose these shower curtain hooks without having to throw them out.
You know those little plastic sandwich baggies?

You can put the hair items that can’t be hooked into a baggie. That’s what we decided to do with the little miniature hair claws and multi-colored barrettes. It’s pretty simple to find what you’re looking for and the girls love to put things where they go.
Fiona got a kick out of dumping all the hair things out of the tub and putting them in order by color, shape, and size. When I asked her where she learned how to organize so well she replied, “I learned it from you Mom.” Better let her help me now that she’s eager to and doesn’t know any better — right?

Hi. I popped over from the Tip Jar Linky.. (did you pick your anti-spam word? ::giggle::)
I love your shower curtain hook idea. I used to punch a hole into a corner of all our flash cards and hook them up, like that..
My tip is for when your girl’s are older and you want to know where your own hair ties are.. Hide Them! I’m kidding. I do keep them in two different areas.. and mine are outside the bathroom. They still, mysteriously, disappear.. because teenagers are tricky, like that. :)

Hi Heidi! Don’t you just love those spam words over on BlogMommas? LOVE THEM. They are so FUN.
I have a 17 year old that LOVES to dig through my stuff, especially my hair things. So you are right! You have to hide them if you want to keep them. lol
BTW, it’s nice to meet you in the blog world. :]

This is a great tip, Angela! I think I will have to do this with my daughters stuff.

Ahhhhhhhh 17 year olds that swipe the stuff. So glad I have a boy.
Angela, I use an old scarf tacked to the top of the door to hold all my hair clips. I have them all at my finger tips when I need them.
Might be hard with all the little clips and barettes, but it’s fun looking for new scarves to match my bathroom.

Anna Marie – That’s a great idea! I have not thought of that. Sometimes you can find gorgeous scarves for next to nothing at the good will store. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for those the next time I go.
